In the 1990s organisations concerned with education in its broadest sense choose to use consultants to solve or advise on problems or to help achieve objectives. This directory tells you about the wide range of skills of members of the Society and gives information on clarifying your ideas about consultants and how to make the most of them.
The Society of Education Consultants (SEC) is made up of members who work individually, in networks or are associated with consultancy organisations. All are committed to offering a service to education of the highest standard. Members are vetted before they are admitted and agree to a Code of Practice.
External consultants can help in a multitude of ways. For example, they can help you think strategically about specific aspects of education or education generally. They can design and manage projects for you. They can help schools or colleges plan for inspections or implement inspectors' recommendations; work with governors and/or heads to produce financial plans, advise on buildings, quality control or aspects of the curriculum; or help you plan new ways of marketing your organisation in the UK or overseas.
Code of Practice
The aim of the Society of Education Consultants is to advance the profession of education consultancy by establishing high standards of performance and conduct by its members, and promoting the knowledge and skills required for that purpose.
For the Society's purposes, an education consultant is one who provides an educational consultancy service to schools, colleges, professional bodies, local education authorities, government departments and other public and private bodies, organisations or individuals concerned with education.
A member of the Society must be able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of any client that he or she can fulfil the requirements of the Society's Code of Practice.
